As of May 18 Cuba had received two million international visitors; evidence of the confidence and recognition of tour operators, travel agencies, airlines, and tourists from around the world, as a safe and attractive tourist destination. This was reaffirmed during the country’s recently concluded International Tourism Fair (FITCuba 2018), which saw a record number of participants.
Such results have been achieved despite the impact of Hurricane Irma and tightening of the economic blockade by the U.S. government, as well as media campaigns aimed at deterring U.S. citizens from visiting the island, according to a press release from Cuba’s Ministry of Tourism.
Canada and Europe continue to be the island’s principal tourist markets, while a significant rise has also been seen in the number of visitors from Russia, Mexico, Argentina, China and Brazil.
